The Grail: A Quest for the Eternal
The universal legend of King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table and the quest of the Holy Grail, has occupied an important place in the imagination since awareness of it first dawned in the European Middle Ages and it continues to exert a fascination upon all who come within its sphere of influence.
As a scared vessel the Grail has strong links with Celtic Myth and with the Hermetic Vessel and the Philosophers Stone of alchemy. The Grail has remained a symbol of spiritual wholeness, a quest of the eternal leading to union with the Divine which has been the aim of seekers after truth in every land and every century.
The School of the Golden Rosycross believes that the legend contains a deep hidden meaning which will not be apparent to us as long as we continue to seek the answer in the ordinary material and natural way by the use of the intellect. What we are really being confronted with in this and other legends is the struggle of the Soul which is imprisoned within each of us and which longs to return to its source, the divine light of Love. This Divine principal within man can only be set free, if in complete self-sacrifice, love and devotion man becomes conscious of his high vocation, becomes a Knight of the Round Table, takes up his sword (the Divine force in him) and fulfills his task in the service of the Light.
The quest for the Holy Grail is not without its difficulties, trials and challenges. All who go in search of the realization in themselves of the highest aspect are impeded by hidden faults whilst many are subject to the most severe challenges on the way. The true seeker, however, will always be aided by a spiritual school.
